New figures show that almost a fifth of people in the UK use community
buying groups to combine their buying power. And it is something that
many energysharers are no stranger to given the cost of microgeneration.
So we are pleased to announce a new competition that was launched today by Co-operatives UK and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). The ‘Buying Better Together Challenge’ is an exciting initiative to help inspire new models of community buying, stimulate enterprise and promote shared learning.
A total of £60,000 is available – some of which will go towards training and mentoring the standout applications, with £15,000 being awarded to the overall winner.
There are three separate challenges which applicants can enter. They are as follows:
Challenge One: A project aimed at creating a platform, tool or vehicle to help individuals to come together and form a community buying group.
Challenge Two: A project aimed at enabling existing or new community groups to develop their purchasing power by working collectively.
Challenge Three: A project aimed at businesses to empower their employees or consumers to group for community buying.
Applications are open until 15thMay 2012, with the shortlist being announced in June and winners chosen by the end of the year. For more details and to complete an application form please visit www.bis.gov.uk/buying/.
