ACE Fundraising Appeal

SAVE ACE!

As at the end of March ACE's funds stood at approximately £1,100. This
may sound quite a lot, but in a normal month, without special
fundraising/ donations, ACE loses £250 - £350. Thus unless we raise more
funds, ACE could completely run out of money and be unable to pay the
rent etc, within 3-4 months.

We are confident this will not happen, and that ACE will survive and
indeed thrive. But this is only because we are confident that enough of
you will make donations and get involved in fundraising to save ACE.

You can now make a donation online at www.autonomous.org.uk

You can also now make a regular payment online - press the SUBSCRIBE
button. This is invaluable as it is regular income we can rely on.

You can also still make a traditional standing order - pick up a form in
ACE.

We need folk to help organise fundraising gigs, socials, stalls at
fleamarkets, carboots, do grant applications... and any other
fundraising ideas welcome. Do get in touch at ace@autonomous.org.uk or
in person at ACE at opening times.

Workers Beer - Get free music festival tickets and raise funds for ACE

Just received this from the Workers Beer Company - Though there is no
Glastonbury this year there is the good news that we can fundraise at
Victoria Park during the Olympics - 27th July to 12th August.

http://www.btlondonlive.com/victoria-park

SO - all wanting ACE to stay a valuable resource for the community
please email back to say if you can make any or all of the dates between
27th July to 12th August. Cheers.

The other festivals that we can bid for places for are listed here:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/88S7X32

Also please reply to ACE as soon as you can to say what events you can
attend (probably half of them will not be worth doing though as we will
have to pay for our own transport to get down south for most I think) -
We have until 20th April to get back to WBC with the number of
volunteers we have available and what festivals we want to attend.

UPCOMING EVENTS
__________

18TH APRIL

St Imier Speaking Tour

Wednesday 18th April, 7:00pm
@ The Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh,
17 West Montgomery Place
Donations Welcome

In August 2012 anarchists from all over the world will be gathering in
St Imier, Switzerland for a week of events to mark the 140th anniversary
of the founding of the Anarchist International- a major split with the
authoritarian international of Karl Marx.

This split represents a fundamental divide between those who believe
that communism can be imposed from above, and those who believe that we
can only have true communism if we have freedom as well. How we get
where we want to go is as important as where we want to go.

As part of the process of building up to the summer event, the AF is
hosting a series of meetings around the country. The theme of the
meetings is the struggle against authoritarianism- from St Imier to
today. The following issues will be discussed:

• The background to St Imier and what was involved in the split
• How the struggle against authoritarianism continued in key revolutions
such as Russia and Spain
• The debate about human ‘nature’ and why humans do not need authority
to flourish
• The role of authoritarian tendencies in struggles today eg the cuts
movement, the strikes in the public sector, the student movement and
within the anarchist movement itself

19TH APRIL

Anti workfare activity

Meet at ACE 10am Thursday 19th April

Join us in visiting employers who are still profiting from slave labour
by their involvement in the Work Programme and other government workfare
schemes.

We will be talking to workers, management and shop customers, and
leafleting, to explain why the unemployed are not going to put up with
compulsory work-for-benefits. Workfare not only attacks claimants, but
undermines all workers' wages and conditions.

It will probably last for a couple of hours or so, but just come along
for however long you can manage.

Organised by Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty

24TH APRIL

Film Screening - END:CIV with director Franklin Lopez

Former Democracy Now! producer, Franklin López is the force behind
subMedia.tv, a radical video channel that specializes in experimental
news, politically charged viral videos and activist films that have been
seen by millions. Frank's work has been screened around the world and
his news show "It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine"
is watched by thousands of loyal fans.

END:CIV illustrates the brutality of a civilization addicted to
systematic violence and environmental destruction, and the heroism of
those who confront it head-on.
